We know you’ve been playing outside all summer, but the fun doesn’t stop just because the evenings are getting a little cooler. From remarkably beautiful fall leaves, to Halloween celebrations, to the return of Ladies Night at Peace Surplus, there’s so much to be excited about.

September 

Ladies Night at Peace Surplus! Helllo, we’re baaack!! We’re excited to bring back the much anticipated Ladies Night benefiting the Gear Girls of the Arizona Trail Association. As we celebrate the 80’s, join us dressed in your best 80’s outfit, break out the blue and pink eyeshadow, and don’t forget the Aqua Net We will party the night away with beer and wine (with the purchase of a wristband), a costume contest, 80’s Karaoke, and raffle prizes. All proceeds from Ladies Night will be donated to the Gear Girls of the Arizona Trail Association.

Meet an Astronomer: Every Saturday evening, the Mars Hill Lowell Observatory invites an Astronomer to give you the inside scoop on a new topic. On September 24th, they’re hosting Dr. Larry Wasserman who was “a part of the team that conducted a systematic search of the Kuiper belt, a large area populated with tens of thousands of so-called Kuiper belt objects.” You’ll be able to take a look at planets, stars and galaxies on the Observatory’s outdoor screen. Check the Observatory website for future “Meet an Astronomer†events.

Community Farmer’s Market: If you’ve been sleeping on the local goodies of the market all summer, now is your chance to make up for it! Every Sunday and Wednesday in September, vendors bring fresh produce, homemade treats, and home good items to downtown Flagstaff. 

• Sundays through October 30, 2022 and Wednesdays through September 7, 2022

Festival of Science: Anyone else a science lover? This 10 day event is perfect for families with a wide range of speakers and interactive events. The Keystone speaker is world-renowned Egyptologist Zahi Hawass,  who will cover Egypt’s “largest discovery in more than a century in 2020.†30, 3,000 year old coffins Wooden coffins were discovered with “exceptionally-preserved mummies inside.†

Viola’s Pumpkin Patch: It’s not really fall until you’ve carved a pumpkin. Head to Viola’s in anytime in the month of October for “straw-bale maze, pumpkin decorating station, old-fashion games, and photo ops around every corner!†

Flagstaff Oktoberfest: Oktoberfest Lovers, it’s your time to shine. For the 13th year, Munic will take over Wheeler Park bringing you live music, bratwurst, pretzels and Plenty of Beer! Mother Road Brewing will be in attendance along with a slew of other Oktoberfest beers and food trucks. Adult admission is $12 and kids get in free.

Beer, Bubbles and Bellbottoms Bar Crawl: Remember the 70s? Well, not all of us do either, but we;re going to pretend for an afternoon! On October 15th, grab your best disco outfit, get ready for some throwback jams, and join the first Flagstaff Bar Crawl of its kind. Your ticket includes a free Beer, Bubbles and Bellbottoms t-shirts, and a lanyard which gives you exclusive access to the drink specials at participating businesses. The Bar Crawl will be followed by disco Kayakoe at Corner Tavern at 6pm.

Halloween Harvest and Trick or Treat Trail: It’s spooky season! Downtown Flagstaff is hosting a celebration in Heritage Square on Halloween! There will be carnival games, a BOOgie dance party, art, a “freaky†fashion show and a Halloween Trick-Or-Treat Trail with over 20 stops. Many downtown businesses will also offer discounts and promotions.

Take a Fall Hike: Saturdays are meant for meandering a new beautiful fall foliage trail – you know it’s true! If you’ve never been to the West Fork of Oak Creek in the fall, we recommend that first. It’s a relatively flat, out and back hike located at the bottom of Oak Creek near Sedona. Otherwise, Wilson Meadow is a great two mile hike in Hart Prairie! You’ll be able to see the lovable aspen trees turn bright yellow.

Flagstaff Poetry Slam: Every Wednesday at 6:30 at Liminal, there’s an open poetry slam! The poetry slam community fosters inclusivity, expression and creativity. Registration begins 30 minutes before the event and anyone is welcome.

Scenic Drive: Not the hiking type or just need to give the legs a rest? You can still see the beauty of Northern Arizona on scenic highway 89A. Drive south from Flagstaff along the curvy roads that drop you into Oak Creek Canyon. This stretch of road will have beautiful fall colors and will eventually land you in Sedona, a perfect lunch spot. Take full advantage of the 89A pull offs to enjoy the view. There are also a handful of picnic areas and lunch spots along the way. Check out Bootlegger Picnic area, in which you can spend the afternoon grilling out or meandering along Oak Creek.
